Kexter.com is currently in development and is meant as a proof of concept to demonstrate the power of web mashups. With a tip of the hat to Paul Rademacher who’s paved the way for the community to enjoy geocoded Craigslist listings, Kexter fuses craigslist and google maps to help renters, property owners and investors make better decisions. It’s amazing how a little project can help make complex information much more accessible to the public. The Kexter interface is flexible to mend itself to various geocoding applications, and can be customized to work with many different types of data.
We present kexter free and without advertisements to the community for as long as our resources will allow us. If the Kexter server will not be able to handle the loads, we will simply turn them off. The data on kexter is not guaranteed to be accurate, but we are confident in it, and review it’s accuracy every day. If you find an error, please let us know and we’ll fix it. If you have some ideas, we are all ears, and if we use your idea, you will be given due credit.
A little about our team:
Gene Ekster
Originator and design lead of Kexter.com
A 10 year junior in the technology industry, Gene has worked on numerous projects including ones for AskJeeves, and Wells Fargo Bank. Recently a first time home purchase experience left him wanting a more comprehensive source for rent, real estate and demographics analysis information. After not finding an accessible public data source, he conceived kexter.com to provide the information to others with the same need. Gene’s hobbies include photography, and he is involved in documenting nightlife events through a firm phatcatphoto with his partner Gene Kosoy.
Greg Michalec
Lead developer and information architect
Greg is a veteran developer who’s past and present work has been instrumental in supporting the community. He has worked with the Midnight Special Law Collective to provide legal support software for defendants without access to such innovative resources. His work with kexter has been influential since it’s inception; he has provided the majority of the code base and informational architecture that powers kexter.com. He is also an avid biker, and glimpses of his annual treks across America can be seen through bikebums.com
